Lending a Helping Hand!!

In these tough economic times parents are falling on hard times. GlamGirl PR will be collecting school supplies from February 1, 2011-August 15, 2011 for the back to school drive. This year we would like to be able to help families in need with uniforms, shoes and school supplies. We would like for everyone to please give a monetary gift in the form of a money order or a check (made out to Evans and Davis Enterprises), or you can simply send your school supplies to the address below. Monetary donations can be as little as $5 and as high as you would like. We encourage everyone to help out in whatever way they can. (That pack of pencils will go a long way). If you would like to send new school uniforms, you can choose from the following selection.

Yellow Uniform shirts (Any size)
White Uniform shirts (boys and girls)
(Blue uniform shirts (boys and girls)
Blue Pants (for boys and girls)
Blue Jumpers or skirts
White knee socks
Yellow knee socks
White, Navy or yellow tights

We will be ordering cases of shoes which are roughly $180 a case plus shipping @18 pairs per case. So please send what you can. This school drive will benefit those students in the Harlem Park and the 21215 zipcodes in Baltimore, MD.

The Fabulous Quintina Johnson

Today's blog is about my client, the fabulous Mrs. Quintina Johnson. She was set to debut her 2011 Spring/Summer Collection at Maryland Fashion Week yesterday in Bowie, MD. There are several things that happened in the course of this week. The Quincy Tae'Lor fashion line is for woman sizes 8-14. There were not enough models to fit her clothing so she could only present 6 looks. She sucked it up and said okay, but since she had such a small line she should have been placed in the middle of the show. She was the finale. Ok. All of her models walked the designer before her at the end of her show and so there was not enough time to change into her looks. When the fabulous commentator announced her to begin her show as soon as the last model from the previous designer walked off the stage, he said "Ladies and Gentlemen, please put your hands together for Ms. TJ Quincy."

Tenne and I were floored, did he just call my client "TJ Quincy". Okay, so model one comes out, model two, and then model three and then..... (crickets) no model, 30 seconds passed, no model, another 30 seconds passed, no model, no designer and then all the models do their final walk on the catwalk. WTF just happened???

Mrs Johnson just packed up her fabulous fashion line, went to the parking lot where I met up with her, and the look in her eyes said it all. I was like, "what was happening in the back?" She said, "I couldn't hear anything, and then all of the models just scattered. I was getting one dressed when the did the final model call."

Now as a publicist, I hate for something to go wrong at an event. But, when you mess up a persons hard work you should at least come to apologize. So, as we wait for that phone call from Tyresa Dyer at Maryland Fashion Week, we will humble ourselves, take the experience for what it was and move on. Good thing Mrs Johnson had a hard working publicist behind her that put gift bags with a lookbook video in it so that people could at least take the line home with them.

This business requires that we always have a plan B. Always be on your A game!!!

"Who is Dee Blackmon & Where the Hell Has She Been?"

So, what next for this rising star? Ms. Dee Blackmon will be taking her brand on the HBCU college circuit. She will debut her play "Color Blind" to a college audience, while promoting her debut novel, Fallen Snow and doing a motivational seminar/workshop for students interested in becoming an Author and/ or writing a play or script.

Ms. Blackmon knows that part of being an successful entreprenuer lies in bringing that knowledge back to our communities. What better way to do that, than to bring real world experience to the classroom of young innovative minds. Her very own inspiration were nurtured by her fourth grade teacher while in school in Detroit.

"Color Blind"

Author & Playwright Dee Blackmon had standing ovations at everyone of her performances of the stage play "Color Blind" showing at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum. Audiences came into the theater with a look of familiarity about going to see another African American production and left with a different opinion. One of the older African American Women left saying, "That was one of the best plays I had ever seen. I was expecting it to be boring and the same as the other plays."

If you didn't get a chance to see "Color Blind", there are four more shows in June at the Reginald F. Lewis museum. Rain Pryor (Richard Pryors' Daughter) came to the May 1, 2010 showing and loved it so much, she asked for a part in the play. She will will be appearing in the June showings.
